Aligned with internationally approved standards
All our language test scores are aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The CEFR was developed by the Council of Europe as a way of standardizing the levels of language exams in different regions. It is very widely used internationally and all important exams are mapped to the CEFR.

You can feel confident that your scores reflect what you would receive on other tests like TOEFL and IELTS because our tests were built to the same standards of accuracy and reliability as other standardized language tests.
However, our tests are designed to fill a gap that none of the other high-stakes language tests currently fills – to give the user power over his/her own progress and to support language learning for everyone, regardless of their economic status, financial condition, or location. We remove these barriers by making our tests affordable and available online.
Finally, our tests are currently part of the few standardized language tests that accurately measure all skill levels – beginner to proficient – in one test iteration and in alignment with the internationally recognized standard, the CEFR. Most other standardized language tests are able to assess some proficiency levels, but not the entire CEFR scale.
Aligned with the CEFR Framework
One scale. Six levels. A credential the world understands at a glance.
Every NextGen language test follows the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Languages — the same six-level scale that universities, employers and language schools use across Europe and beyond. When you put your NextGen certificate on a CV or LinkedIn profile, you don’t need to explain what your score means. A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2 are levels recruiters already know. The result you earn here speaks their language from day one.
The CEFR organizes language ability into six progressive stages — from A1, where you handle your first everyday phrases, to C2, where you express yourself with the precision and nuance of an educated native speaker. It’s the framework HR teams reach for when comparing international candidates, the scale academic programs use to set admission requirements, and the structure that makes language proficiency easy to communicate across borders.
By building our tests around this scale, we give your certificate something most credentials never achieve: a result that needs no footnote. You don’t hand over a number on an unfamiliar scale. You hand over a level the world already understands.

- Six progressive levels — from beginner basics to full mastery
- Clear positioning that needs no explanation on your CV
